Whilst staying at La Charronnière, there are an abundance of great places to eat in the local area. Check out some of our favourite places in the list below.

The usual eating times in France are from 12-2pm for lunch, and 7-9pm for dinner. Most restaurants are not open for food outside these hours, although some will open for coffee or drinks. Most restaurants will offer a plat/menu du jour at lunchtimes. This is usually a very reasonably priced 3 course menu, with a couple of options, and sometimes with a drink included.

We strongly recommend you book your meal in advance, especially in the summer months, as the popular restaurants do get booked quickly. If you need any assistance in making a reservation please feel free to ask us.

Local restaurants:

Hotel du commerce -
Very popular French restaurant in Civray. During the warmer months you can sit outside on the terrace which overlooks the river, but the interior is just as lovely if the weather is not favourable. Does a very nice menu du jour at lunch and also has an a la carte menu. https://www.hotelducommerce86....

L'Auberge du noyer - Great restaurant which often hosts live music during the summer months. This restaurant offers a large A la Carte menu. We have dined here often and it is always a lovely evening. https://aubergedunoyer.com/

Restaurant O City'ven - Lovely French restaurant in the town square of Civray. Reasonably priced set menus (with choices) and delicious food!

Jeux de pots - set in Verteuil-Sur-Charente, this restaurant is truly beautiful inside and out. In nicer weather there is a terrace right on the Charente and partially overlooking the Chateau, perfect spot for some lunch or a drink. Inside, the decor is extravagant and tasteful, and the food divine. https://www.jeux-de-pots.com/

Le Vieux Séchoir -
Fabulous micro restaurant situated in Blanzay serving mainly Indian food. Their Indian tasting menu (usually on Fridays/Saturdays) is delicious. They also run lobster and frites evenings (be sure to book well in advance for this!). With only 12 covers per sitting you are guaranteed an intimate and tasty meal. They also serve the best cocktails around!

Worth noting:

The larger local towns of Civray and Ruffec and Poitiers old town have plenty of lovely restaurants. Some, especially in Poitiers, may even serve food all day.
